Ofsted - a great outcome - Rotherham children and families services

Published: Monday, 5th February 2018

Ofsted has officially announced the outcome of its recent inspection at Rotherham Council.

The inspectors concluded that Rotherham children and families services have been transformed in just three years, moving from their previous 'inadequate' rating to an overall 'good' – an increase of two ratings, in one of the fastest ever turn-arounds. This rating also includes sub judgements of 'good' for children in need of help and protection; 'requires improvement' for children looked after and achieving permanence; 'good' for adoption performance; 'outstanding' for experiences and progress of care leavers and 'good' for leadership, management and governance.

The Council was further praised for tenacious social work practice in tackling chronic neglect and innovative training and therapeutic support for adopters and their families.

This is a great outcome for Rotherham children and families who should be confident that we are entirely focused on giving every child the best start in life, and on protecting and supporting our most vulnerable children and young people.
