LADO Procedure

Published: Monday, 27th March 2017

From 24th March 2017 the following changes to the LADO procedure came into effect.

If the allegation concerns an adult who has access to children, or if it relates to a specific child, it will be referred to the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub Team so that a multi-agency review form can be completed.

If the allegation does not name a specific child, for example if a teacher has been accused of accessing images of child sexual abuse, and the adult does not have access to children, the referral form will be submitted directly to the Local Authority Designated Officer.

These changes have been made in order to ensure that LADO referrals are treated with the same robustness as any others; when a known child is involved, it is necessary to gather information on them before the investigate process can begin.

Feedback from multi-agency partners shows that practitioners who wish to make a referral have been passed between the LADO, the MASH Team and the Duty Team, without being offered an opportunity to ask for guidance, and it is hoped that the updated procedure will give the partnership renewed confidence in the LADO system.
