Safeguarding Awareness Week

Planning is already underway for Safeguarding Awareness Week 2018, which will take place from 9 to 13 July 2018. The theme is 'Safeguarding is Everybody's Business'.

A number of awareness raising events are planned for members of the public in each local area. More information will follow.

The contribution of the voluntary, community and independent sectors to safeguarding week is extremely important. Both Rotherham Children and Adult Boards are offering your organisations the opportunity to hold display/market stalls across the borough. The Boards have booked venues on 10th and 12th July – All Saints Square and Retail World, Parkgate. 9th July – 13th July at Tesco, Drummond Street; Rawmarsh Customer Service Centre’ Aston Joint Services Centre and Dinnington Resource Centre.

If you would like to book a venue and publicise it in the programme please let us know by completing the event booking form and returning to by Monday 30th April 2018.

We are asking all organisations, including schools, early years, health, housing, emergency services and others to please tell us about any awareness raising events your organisations has planned for members of the public or professionals by completing the event booking form. The Safeguarding boards will publicise your events in the programme.

There are resources available for partners to use to spread the word about 'What Safeguarding is', how to raise a concern, and encourage people to look at the safeguarding website.

A ‘Safeguarding Conference’ for multi-agency professionals will be held at Carlton Park Hotel, 102-104 Moorgate Road, Rotherham S60 2BG on Friday 13th July 9.00 – 13:00

Key speakers include, Paul Williamson, G1 Head of Investigations, National Crime Agency, who is currently responsible for leading Operation STOVEWOOD, investigating the Rotherham Child Abuse scandal and Phil Mitchell accredited counsellor and psychotherapist specialising in working with boys and men who have experienced recent and/or historic sexual abuse. There is a Market Stall event where you will have the opportunity to meet over 14 organisations that provide safeguarding service/resources.

A practitioner learning event will be held at Rockingham Professional Development Centre on Wednesday 11th July.

The learning event will cover the following topics which will be delivered by a number of professionals in South Yorkshire, including:

  • Self Neglect
  • Financial Abuse
  • FGM
  • Prevent
  • Cyber Crime
  • Suicide Prevention

Practitioners can attend half day or full day.
