How to make a referral if you have concerns about a child

If you are unsure about whether to make a referral about a child or young person then consider the guidance and procedures in the Local Safeguarding Children Board manual.

If you need to make a referral about a child or young person please follow the following steps:

  • If the child at immediate risk of harm, contact the Police 
  • If the child is not at immediate risk of harm, then consider the multi-agency practice guidance and multi-agency thresholds and get in touch with the multi-agency safeguarding hub to make a referral.
