Safeguarding Awareness Week 2019

Safeguarding Week 2019 will be taking place between 8 and 12 July 2019. There will be a number of local events taking place along with a joint South Yorkshire events.

South Yorkshire and Rotherham Local Children Safeguarding and Adults Boards along with the Safer Rotherham Partnerships are working together to host safeguarding awareness week 2019. The key message is ‘Safeguarding is Everybody’s Business’ and the themes are Adult and Child Mental Health, Criminal Exploitation and Safeguarding in Sport.

Every year Safeguarding Week aims to raise awareness of the different forms that abuse can take and looks at complex issues affecting South Yorkshire.

Monday 8 July will see the introduction of safeguarding weeks first twilight conference, which will focus on Safeguarding on Sport. 

Tuesday 9 July will see the return of the Safeguarding Week Conference. There will be three keynote speakers focusing on Mental Health and related charities and voluntary & community sector organisations holding promotional stalls, including, National Child Birth Trust (NCT), HealthWatch Rotherham, LIGHT Services, Rotherham Abuse Counselling Services:

A variety of workshops will also take place during the week, on the following:

  • Fraud Prevention
  • Cuckooing
  • Oral hygiene
  • Criminal Exploitation
  • FGM
  • Honour Based Violence
  • Force Marriage
  • Safeguarding in Sport

Friday 12 July will see the return of the Practitioner Learning Event at Rockingham PDC, which is being led by South Yorkshire Police.  There will be four keynote speakers focusing on criminal exploitation.

There will be a Digital Safeguarding Challenge set by Rotherham Creative Learning Centre for all Rotherham Schools.  The challenge is simple by hopefully encourage meaningful discussions in school about staying Safe online.
