Welcome to Rotherham Safeguarding Children Board Website. The RSCB is a statutory body which was set up as a requirement of the Children Act 2004. Its main objective is to ensure the effectiveness of all work done to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in Rotherham.

The board members are senior managers in their agencies which include statutory, community, voluntary and faith organisations. To view a full list of the agencies on the RSCB, click here. The board has an independent chair Alan Hazell who has been appointed for a period of three years.

The RSCB has responsibility for core inter-agency child protection work whist embracing the wider safeguarding duties established in the Children Act 2004.

The board works through a structure of sub groups that ensure staff in agencies have procedures and good quality training. The board also undertakes serious case reviews where there is a need for professionals to examine situations of abuse or neglect that have resulted in the death or serious to a child or young person.

The functions, role and responsibilities of the RSCB are set out in Chapter 3 of ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children", published in December 2005 by the Department of Children, Families and Schools.
